Definition of Articles: Articles are words that define a noun as specific or unspecific. There are two types of articles in English:
- Definite Article: "The"
- Indefinite Articles: "A" and "An"
1. Definite Article: "The"
The definite article "the" is used to refer to a specific noun that is known to the reader or listener.
Usage of "The":
- When we are talking about a specific thing that is already known or mentioned.
- When there is only one of something in the world or in a particular context (e.g., "the sun," "the Earth").
- With superlatives and ordinals (e.g., "the best," "the first").

Usage of "A":

- Refers to any dog, not a specific one.
- She wants a sandwich for lunch.
- Refers to any sandwich.
- He is a doctor.
- Refers to any doctor in general.
- She bought a book yesterday.
- Refers to one book, but not a specific one.

- Refers to one chair.
Usage of "An":
- "An" is used before words that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
- It also refers to something that is not specific or is being mentioned for the first time.
Examples:
- I ate an apple for breakfast.
- Refers to any apple, not a specific one.
- He is an engineer.
- Refers to any engineer.
- I need an umbrella because it’s raining.
- Refers to any umbrella, not a specific one.
- She has an idea about the project.

General Rules:
- Use "a" when the noun starts with a consonant sound.
- Use "an" when the noun starts with a vowel sound.
- Use "the" when referring to something specific or known to both the speaker and the listener.
